Preparing for a session

How does Salt Therapy work?

Salt therapy works in three different ways. Because salt is super absorbent, the inhaled dry salt acts like a sponge attracting foreign substances along its path through the respiratory tract.

The dry salt can be imagined as behaving like a toothbrush that cleans the respiratory system removing the build-up of foreign elements that cause various respiratory ailments and conditions. Salt is also anti-inflammatory, so the inhaled dry salt particles may help to reduce inflammation in the entire respiratory tract and widen the airway passages.

A clean respiratory system naturally results in higher oxygen intake, increased energy, and an improved immune system. Lastly, salt also acts as an anti-bacterial agent, by dissolving bacteria and pollutants lodged in the respiratory tract. These are then either coughed up or naturally expelled by the body.

What happens during a session?

During sessions, our halogenerator grinds pharmaceutical salt to a fine dust that is dispersed into the room for you to inhale. The salt rooms are designed for relaxation so you will want to sit back in our lounge chair and breathe deeply. The door to the salt room will close and remain closed during the session for the guest experience and to make sure salt particles do not leave the room. If a guest arrives late or needs to leave early, we are not able to open the doors to the salt room to allow them in or to re-enter. This is a quiet space. To allow comfort and relaxation for all, we ask to refrain from talking during the session.

What should you wear to your salt session?

You will want to wear comfortable clothing to your salt session, or we will have an Aspira robe for you to wear. Please note darker colored clothing may show salt, but it can easily be brushed off and will not harm your clothing. Guests will wear clean socks, provided by Aspira. Due to the purity of the salt and our salt floor, shoes or spa sandals cannot be worn in the room.

We encourage you to make an appointment, but walk-ins are welcome if there is available space. We do follow our cancellation policy and charge a fee for regular salt sessions; we do ask in consideration of other guests wanting to book an appointment you give us a 24-hour notice. An Aspira Spa Day Pass to the spa amenities can be added for an additional $25 provided they are available at time of booking. You will need to be checked in 15 minutes before the session begins

Actively Sick?

Salt therapy is not available while you are actively sick. The best time to seek salt therapy is when you are healthy and using salt therapy for chronic illness or preventative treatment. If you suspect that you are actively sick (or running a fever), please call to reschedule the appointment after you have been free of fever for at least 24 hours. Our ongoing goal is to maintain an environment of health and wellness.

What should expect to happen during my treatment?

Salt sessions last 45 minutes and are in a room that is surrounded with Himalayan Sea salt on the walls and covering the ground. During a session it is best to close your eyes and take deep cleansing breaths, or bring a book to read and relax. Himalayan salt crystals provide negative ions that enhance the salt therapy experience. Aspira Spa Salt Room does not allow any form of electronics in the room. Salt is corrosive and can ruin your device.

Will I be alone for my treatment?

Our salt rooms can accommodate up to six people at a time.

Is it safe to have salt therapy while pregnant?

Yes, it is completely safe and all natural to have salt therapy while pregnant. We do recommend always consulting with your physician prior to any new treatment. Pregnant women find relief with respiratory or skin issues while pregnant and unable to take prescription medications. Salt therapy can also help boost the immune system.

Side Effects

Halotherapy is 100% natural, drug free, and safe. Post session some people have experienced a runny nose, slight cough, or chest tightness. This is usually due to mucus and toxins becoming dislodged in the body and working their way out of the body.

Smoking & Perfumes

We ask that anyone who is a smoker to please refrain from smoking prior to entering in the salt room. If you smell of smoke, you may be asked to reschedule. Aspira is a smoke-free environment. The main reason we do not allow guests actively smelling of smoke is for our clients who have respiratory issues. The presence of the exhaled smoke or chemicals can trigger a reaction or an attack. Please refrain from use of any perfumes or essential oils before entering the salt room.

How long does it take for Salt Therapy to work?

Everyone reacts to salt therapy differently and there are no established recommendations on treatment times.

Once you begin your salt therapy treatment sessions, you will be able to determine how many days, how often per day, and the time required to help you.

We often say to “make salt therapy a habit”. Many people find that adding halotherapy to their wellness routine increases their overall health and vitality.

Halotherapy is recognized as a safe and effective wellness practice for preventive and restorative health care. It is not a medical treatment and does not offer a cure! Halotherapy is not recommended for people with contagious diseases, fever, open wounds, certain types of lung cancer, severe hypertension, mental disorders, and active tuberculosis. We always recommend that individuals consult with their local physician to determine if salt therapy is the right treatment for their condition.
