Discover the Best Time to Visit Elkhart Lake
You might not think of winter as a great time to take a vacation. Allow us to change your mind! December through February is a special time here on the lake when temperatures are cold (expect highs around 30°F) but the village is bursting with warmth and cheer. Some of our favorite wintertime activities include snowshoeing the Ice Age Trail, ice skating at June Vollrath Park, and attending seasonal events right here at Osthoff Resort.
Bundle up and join us for our 10-day Christmas Market, a magical experience with tons of activities including hayrides, cookie decorating, Christmas buffets, and an appearance from Santa and his reindeer. If you’re looking to make memories with the family, this is a wonderful time to do so!
When the days grow longer and the snow starts to melt, you know that spring has arrived on Elkhart Lake. Highs range from 29°F to 73°F March through May, with far warmer temperatures in the later months. This is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and explore before the summer crowds.
Head out on a bike ride and enjoy the smell of fresh air and blooming wildflowers. Or, rent a fishing boat from the resort and cast a line for bass in the deep waters of the lake. If you’d prefer to kick back and relax, grilling by the water’s edge is one of our favorite seasonal activities in the spring.
Summer is the busiest time of year on Elkhart Lake. It’s also the most fun! Temps typically hover around 80°F from June-August, which is ideal for kayaking on the lake or lounging by the pool during the day. Osthoff is also within walking distance of two other resorts, and we all have live music in the summertime. In the evening, grab a drink from our Lake Deck and dance to the live band. Then, take a stroll down the road to Gessert’s for some ice cream. There’s no better place to go for your next summer vacation.
September, October, and November bring shorter days and cooler nights, with highs that range from 71°F to 43°F. We recommend dressing in layers and enjoying a variety of activities during your stay. Some of our favorites include morning foliage hikes, afternoon treatments at our onsite spa, and lakeside bonfires at night. Don’t forget to pack your camera to capture the region’s spectacular colors!
