Top Fall Foliage Hikes You Need To Explore!

Parnell Tower Loop

Infused with the charming spirit of northern hospitality, Elkhart Lake is a welcoming haven for outdoor adventurers, nature buffs, and history buffs alike. We are all extremely lucky to call the Northern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest our home. There is no better time of the year to explore this scenic, natural gem than in fall.

Ice Age Trail

20,000 years ago much of the area was under a sheet of ice thicker than a mile. As the ice melted, one of the most fascinating marks left was a sunken bowl-shaped “kettle” in Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine, including a 3.6 mile long loop trail! Step back into the Ice Age and enjoy a spectacular day hike! It is one of the most popular trails in Sheboygan County and perfect for all skill levels. The Ice Age Trail overlaps The LaBudde Creek State Fishery Area. This loop features a mixture of easy and steep hills, an abundance of wildlife, and wetlands that make this route very scenic.

Parnell Tower Loop

Parnell Tower Loop

Start your 3.5 mile hike with a series of wooden steps leading up to the highest point of elevation in the forest. It might not seem like it at the beginning, but we promise you there is a great reward at the end- a breathtaking view of the area’s fall foliage on a 60-foot observation tower! Parnell Tower is a must stop for hikers and provides a birds-eye view at the top.

Kohler-Andre Black River Trail

On the shores of Lake Michigan, this popular trail begins at the northwest end of the park and includes open fields full of birds and wildflowers. Great for all skill levels, this loop is best used from May to October.

Glenbeulah Ice Age Trail

If you are ready for a moderate workout, this trail is for you. Dense forests and narrow paths with rocky terrain is what this 5.4 mile hike is all about. This trail offers beautiful scenery that offers an opportunity to see wildlife and is accessible year-round. Remember to bring extra water to dodge dehydration for the dog too!

Purple Loop

If peace and solitude are what you seek, Purple Loop is an ideal option. This 5-mile route includes a single-track trail of lush pine forests and beautiful terrain. It is great for all skill levels. Purple Loop is an attractive trail from April to October, but especially in the Fall when the leaves are changing colors.
