ELKHART LAKE, WIS-Spas of America has ranked Wisconsin’s own Aspira Spa #39 in their Top 100 Spas in the US for 2022. Aspira Spa is the only spa from Wisconsin to receive this honor, and one of just three in the Midwest.
This annual award is given to spas and wellness experiences shown to be consumer favorites by Spas of America, a health and wellness website promoting healthy living and travel by showcasing the best spa and wellness centers in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Aspira Spa, located at The Osthoff Resort, is nestled on the shores of Elkhart Lake. They offer a natural approach to the spa experience. Created with the intention of giving and receiving from the earth, this resort spa offers a place to ground, connect and rejuvenate. Their goal is to provide solutions for all guests to take a proactive approach to their natural wellness.
Since receiving this award, Aspira Spa has opened a new treatment room—the Salt Room Experience. They encourage their guests to start their new year of wellness with the healthy benefits of salt therapy, which can reduce symptoms of respiratory illness, sinus and skin conditions, while also strengthening the immune system.
Halotherapy, or salt therapy, might be new to Aspira Spa, but it’s been around since 1843. That year, Polish physician Feliks Boczkowski noticed that salt mine workers did not experience respiratory issues or lung disease unlike other miners. The naturally occurring salt caves in Poland have been used as therapeutic centers for asthma sufferers since the 1950s.
After World War II, where the residents of Ennepetal, Germany hid in karst salt caves to escape the heavy bombing, German physician Karl Hermann Spannagel noticed that those patients’ health improved after their exposure to the caves.
